Triggers Everywhere

Everywhere you look someone has a new and improved trigger system for firearms. Be it your AR platform rifles, pistols, or bolt guns. I received a trigger for testing the other day from a company I had not heard of. Huber Concepts. This was a trigger system for the Remington 700 platform. I also received a lot of statistical information concerning the trigger. The trigger was preset from the factory according to the order. There is no need to adjust. Upon the review of the information sent with the trigger, I realized this was a 2 stage trigger system. It uses a ball bearing system to make the trigger work smooth and steady, There is no creep or rough spots in the trigger pull. The trigger came with slave pins installed which make it easy to install. Since I have been working on setting up my Remington 700 as a long range shooter on a budget and this was a test trigger, I installed it on my own rifle.
Once I installed the trigger system I decided to test the trigger prior to putting the action back in the stock. The first stage is very smooth at 1lb. It gives the trigger a pre-travel which most would think is bad, This is not bad, I found it to be perfect for pre-loading the trigger prior to the shot. Once you reach the end of that travel and feel the solid face of the second stage it is only 2 ½ lbs to release. The second stage was very crisp and smooth. There was no overtravel. First, you’re there and then it’s gone.
I tested the trigger with my trigger pull scale, It was a perfect 2lb 8oz pull every time. There was no variation to that which surprised me as most triggers you test you get a slight 1-4 oz variation.

I then installed the stock and prepared for some time at the range. I also needed to sight in a new scope so this was the perfect opportunity. When I set up on my sight in range at 100 yards, I figured I would take a few shots just to get used to the trigger. This trigger allowed me to pay close attention to my fundamentals. The first thing I noticed was the first stage allowed me to get on target and breath without worrying I was going to set the shot off with the slightest amount of pressure. At the break of the shot, I felt more solid than I had with my Timney. The pressure required is smooth and only a little more than the first stage. I then proceeded to sight in the rifle, Once I sighted it in I figured I would have some fun with the trigger, of course, range time is always fun. I picked several targets and fired away. I concentrated on pre-setting the trigger and breaking the shot clean every time. I found I actually enjoyed shooting this trigger system. I knew exactly when the trigger would

break every time. There are several trigger systems out there that you increase the pull and wait for the sear to release. This did not happen with this trigger. I knew after the pre-set it would release and exactly when I was ready. One thing I thought I would not like on this system was the shoe. I personally like a wide shoe, This one is medium and rounded. No checkering, I was surprised that I really didn’t notice the shoe as much as the pull of the trigger. I would definitely say if you are looking for a good trigger system for your 700 this is one to go with. The one thing on this trigger is the price tag. If you are building a rifle on a tight budget get ready for this one. The price starts at $395 and goes up to $420. I will say it’s worth every penny. Huber Concepts hit a home-run with this one and I would not hesitate to recommend it to any of my customers. There you have it Straight from the gunsmith’s mouth.
