STI...Must Know
STI is one of those firearm companies that you simply must know about and I’m about to tell you why. STI makes some of the best 1911 pistols, both single and double stacked magazine, that I’ve ever seen and I know what a quality 1911 looks like. I see a 1911 and I can’t help but pick it up. I’ve evaluated Wilson’s, Ed Brown, and many others. STI is as good as any of the top builders and better than any production gun I’ve seen. Now that’s a big claim but STI has earned it. I’ve had recent contact with STI and I have a little internal info that I think you will be excited for. STI is working on increasing production. Now if this were any other company, Winchester, Kimber, even Sig that wouldn’t necessarily be good news. Most gun companies, when they try to compensate for a steep increase in demand, do so by cutting corners. STI is having none of that.
STI is known for their meticulous quality. Their pistols operate tightly and feel like they run on ball bearings. They achieve this by purposely machining things too tight and then hand lapping them to perfect operating conditions. While
most in the industry have abandoned this practice, STI still takes the time to do this and that’s why you see many serious competitors with STI’s instead of any other 1911 clone brand. They even presented one to an Author friend of mine. Although there is much more to say about STI, I’m afraid we need to save something for another article. Something like one of my personal favorites to ever come out of their factory. You’ll have to see that next time.
