Are You Really Prepared...Let's Eat
Everyone knows you must have water, food and Air to survive. But HOW? when there is nothing in the grocery store. Or when the grocery store is destroyed due to a flood or other disaster. There is no guarantee that you will be able to get to a grocery store or even find food there. Grocery stores are stocked daily and have a total of 3 days worth of food in stock. As we have seen with some local disasters it may take 2-3 weeks for a truck to get to them to restock. As in the floods in West Virginia, 3 weeks later they are still working on cleaning up the stores so they can be stocked. So what do you do now? It's not hard to plan ahead, we just have to follow the plan. In-home food storage is not that different from preparing for things if they happen. The biggest difference is portability. You can over a short period of time put together a good size food storage on a small budget. Here is the link to the full plan
Now this is a great idea however you should also be prepared to move with food storage, It should also be protected in case of flood or other contamination, Some of the best ideas for that come from the military. MRE's are easy to get, usually not too expensive and can be stored for a good amount of time. They are also water and air tight. Military MRE's are not something you would want to eat long-term but for a crisis situation they are great and with today's technology they don't taste half bad.
Another option is taken from the military and used in the civilian world. There are several companies out there that are making kits in a bucket. It's water and air tight and the food is in sealed airtight packages. One of the ones I have tried is made by Wise foods These foods are available at many locations and online at good prices. They do tend to cost a little more than MRE's but there is a whole lot more food that will get you through longer. I do recommend that you find some of the different brands, get small packages and try the food. If it tastes nasty chances are you aren't going to want to eat it.
Keep your food storage up to date. Watch expiration dates and rotate the food out. It's not hard to do and can be fairly inexpensive if you work it right. Being prepared for a crisis of any proportion will help you and having food will keep you healthy and able to get done what you have too to keep your family safe. There you have it straight from the gunsmith's mouth
