A Better Shield

Here of late, I have been doing a lot of trigger jobs, Due to the political environment, people are buying guns at a rapid rate. It seems the word is out that triggers can be improved on, thus the influx of concealed carry pistols for trigger work. One of the regulars that I get for improvement is the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. Though the factory trigger is good, there is a decent amount of pre-travel in the trigger, as well as the factory trigger has a longer reset. In order to correct these problems, you need to modify several parts of the trigger system. But why make modifications to your factory trigger parts? This is time consuming and tedious work. Instead, replace these parts with a kit already set up for the firearm. There is only one company that I am aware of making trigger kits for these. That would be Apex Tactical Solutions. There are several kits available through Apex, However, the one I find is the most inclusive is The Apex Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger and Kit. This kit comes with everything you need to improve your trigger and make the M&P Shield more enjoyable to shoot. Now be aware the enhancement of any firearm trigger system should only be done by a qualified gunsmith who has the proper tools and knowledge to change out the parts needed and do any adjustments that may be needed. The Apex Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger and Kit includes 1 ea. Aluminum Shield Action Enhancement Trigger 1 ea. Trigger Return Spring Installation Shield Slave Pin (to assist with trigger return spring installation) 1 ea. Fully machined .45 Sear 1 ea. Ultimate Striker Block Kit 1 ea. Ultimate Striker Block 1 ea. Striker Block Spring 1 ea. Talon Tactical tool 1 ea. Shield Carry Spring Set 1 ea. Sear Spring (1/8") 1 ea. 4 lb Rated Trigger Return Spring The Aluminum Shield Action Enhancement trigger uses a slightly different angle and fit than the factory trigger which helps with the pre-travel and the over-travel. Of course, the springs are a reduced weight which lightens the tension on the trigger as it moves through the firing cycle. The Sear they

include slightly changes the angle of the trigger bar contact again reducing the over-travel and allowing the trigger to reset a little earlier than the factory sear. All of these enhancements will give you noticeable improvements on your trigger.

Since I have done several of these I have noticed that the trigger pull, with the kit, is on average between 2-2.5 lbs. The trigger has a smooth uptake and reset, both the pre-travel and the over-travel is reduced. I have found the kit is easy to work with and all parts fit as stated on the website.

The kit is a decently priced at $160 on Brownells or is also available at www.apextactical.com. Installation prices will vary depending on the gunsmith. So if you are looking for a good trigger enhancement for your M&P Shield, I would suggest giving The Apex Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger and Kit a try.
