Winchester, Are You Kidding Me?

Here is something I just don't agree with. I know I've had a few "this is so great" articles in a row but this isn't one of them. USA Forged, steel cased, ammo probably isn't the best direction for Winchester. No, I haven't shot it yet but I do have the Avidity PD10 coming and will have to try it out.

Anyway, this stuff is steel cased, just like the Russian ammo we see coming into the country. You know, the garbage ammo that your pistol won't run. Let me explain why:

There's a reason that brass has been used for cartridge casings since the beginning of enclosed cartridges. It's a very elastic metal. So when fired it cas the ability to expand, adhere to the chamber to create a gas seal, and then retract enough to allow for extraction from the chamber. Steel DOES NOT have that level of elasticity. That's why all that Russian garbage jams in your gun. It can't retract enough to be freely extracted.

But wait...that's not all. There's also the matter of the laccer they use as a corrosion barrier. That stuff melts in the chamber. When it does not only are you left with a gummed up chamber that is difficult to clean but that build up of sticky gunk that acts like glue and will also end up jamming your gun. Now, yes...some people have no issues with steel cased ammo. Those folks are in the minority. So I'll reserve final judgement for after shooting it but at the moment I have to say that this was a terrible direction for Winchester ammo. I'll shoot some when I have a 9mm to do it with but making and extremely cheap ammo isn't always the best route.
